If you are a Queenslander looking for some home-grown theatre entertainment, then shake & stir theatre co should remain on your radar. Based out of Brisbane, this theatrical company does an astronomical amount of work each year. The includes multiple mainstage performances across Australia, a broad school season focusing on links to the P-12 Australian English and Drama curriculum, and many in-season opportunities for their mainstage works. The company even broadened their horizons in 2017 and 2018 by producing the Australian tour of American Idiot the Musical. This company is not one short of passion.

Starting off this decade with one of their works from last year, shake & stir are performing Fantastic Mr Fox in the QPAC Playhouse from now until 18 January 2020. They will then take this production to Perth where they will be performing at the Heath Ledger Theatre from 22 January 2020 – Sunday 26 January 2020.

If the name of this production didn’t tip you off, Fantastic Mr Fox is a stage adaptation of the classic Roald Dahl book by the same name. Dahl’s work lends itself so brilliantly to the stage whether it is in musical or theatrical form. While this may not be one of the authors most well-known of works – this adaptation by shake & stir is one to definitely consider attending if you have either a nostalgic love of Roald Dahl’s writing or have young children and after summer holiday entertainment.

The cast of this season includes Johnny Balbuziente, Leon Cain, Helen Cassidy, Tim Dashwood, Nelle Lee and Nick Skubij.

Dahl’s original novel was adapted to the stage by Nick Skubij. The creative team including Ross Balbuziente as Director, Josh McIntosh as Designer, Jason Glenwright as Lighting Designer, Guy Webster as Sound Designer and Craig Wilkinson as video designer. Ross Balbuziente, Nelle Lee and Nick Skubij also serve as shake & stir theatre co’s Artistic Directors.
