An example of retro becoming hip and trendy once more, even video game publishers and developers are jumping on the Vinyl soundtrack bandwagon. While much more costly than a typical soundtrack or streaming it (if available) through a service like Spotify, even I cannot deny the appeal of picking of ignoring frugality and picking up a vinyl of a series I love. At the very least, that is what I tell myself about the Celeste, Bob’s Burgers and The Book of Mormon vinyl soundtracks I own.
As part of Arkane Studios’ 20th anniversary celebrations, they along with publisher Bethesda Softworks have teamed up with Laced Records to bring the music of their long-running Dishonored series to vinyl in a five-disc pack. The box set will feature a curated selection of tracks by Daniel Licht and other contributors, from games including Dishonored, Dishonored 2, and Dishonored: Death of the Outsider.
68 songs in total are due to be included, including what they have dubbed “fan-favourite songs” including The Drunken Whaler, Silver and Dust, Brigmore Lullaby, and Born in the Month of Darkness. Also making up the collection are ten-tracks of new music by Benjamin Shielden, inspired by the works of Daniel Licht.
For those curious about the specs, each will be pressed onto five heavyweight 180g ‘Sea Blue’ discs. These will be housed in spined inner sleeves that slip into a deluxe rigid case, with sleeve artwork created by Arkane Studios’ art team. If all goes to plan, these will be shipped out relatively soon, in August 2020.
Curious about nabbing yourself one of these while stocks last, or perhaps looking for a complete track list? They are available via the Laced Records online store (USA | Outside-US), priced at USD $100 / GBP £85.
