A few weeks ago, the Gold Coast Film Festival team announced some of the special events which would headline this year’s festivities – including the return of their movie locations tour, the short film festival SIPFest and an ASMR performance. But there remained one question… which films would make up their schedule. It is a mystery no longer though, with the full Gold Coast Film Festival screening line-up announced this week.
The festival will open on Wednesday 15 April 2020 with a gala screening of I am Woman, a biographical drama around the life of Australian singer Helen Reddy. This opening night screening will take place at HOTA: Home of the Arts, with ticket prices ranging from $35.00 (inclusive of drink and popcorn) to $75.00 (VIP Ticket which includes canapes and afterparty access). Ending with a thriller, the closing night will feature the Australian premiere of comedic-thriller Bloody Hell.
Although once again they have not brought back Cool Japan which was a former showcase of Australian/World premieres of Japanese anime, there is still an exciting line-up of films on offer. I encourage you to check out the full program to pick your favourites, but some highlights to me include the 8-film Harry Potter Marathon, the world premiere of locally-filmed Swimming For Gold, the Queensland premiere of Dark Whispers Vol 1, the French animated feature The Swallows of Kabuland the Australian premiere of The Assistant.
Many film screenings during this year’s Gold Coast Film Festival will be held at HOTA: Home of the Arts. However, there will be a number of screenings across the Gold Coast. Be sure to confirm the location of your preferred film before rocking up to a venue.
The Gold Coast Film Festival is an annual highlight of the Gold Coast cultural calendar. The 2020 festivities will take place from 15 April 2020 until 26 April 2020, and includes film screenings, special events, a movie locations tour, lectures by industry leaders and much more.
