Japanese cult classic film Vampire Hunter D is now available to stream on both HIDIVE and Shudder. This dual debut comes after the film’s successful 40th anniversary re-release, which saw screenings in more than 600 cinemas across the United States and Canada on 9, 10, and 13 April.
Directed by Toyoo Ashida and originally released in 1985, Vampire Hunter D is an OVA adaptation of Hideyuki Kikuchi’s best-selling novel series. The film blends samurai action with gothic horror, earning widespread recognition from both fans and critics. Over time, it has become regarded as a seminal work in anime and a defining entry in the horror genre.
HIDIVE and Shudder are offering the digitally remastered version of the original OVA, produced by Sentai Filmworks in 2015. The film is available on demand in both Japanese with English subtitles and English dub, accessible to viewers in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand.
