Anime distributor AnimEigo has announced their plans to offer a Blu-ray release of Bubblegum Crash, the 1991 sequel to the classic anime Bubblegum Crisis. The release is scheduled for 21 January 2025.
Originally produced by Artmic and Artland, Bubblegum Crash takes place a year after the events of Bubblegum Crisis. The story follows the Knight Sabers, a team of vigilantes who had previously battled rogue Boomers in MegaTokyo. With Boomers now seen as protectors of the city, the Knight Sabers have gone their separate ways until a new threat emerges. A group of mercenaries, hunting a powerful AI, forces their leader Sylia to reunite the team for another mission.
The new Blu-ray edition features all three OVA episodes—Illegal Army, Geo Climbers, and Melt Down. Episode 2 (Geo Climbers) has been fully restored, while Episodes 1 and 3 have been given new HD upscales. The package includes a slipcover exclusive to orders from the MediaOCD webstore.
The Bubblegum Crash Blu-ray edition is priced at $24.95 and includes full liner notes, along with bonus content such as trailers and a restoration demonstration. The release offers 1080p HD video quality with Japanese 2.0 LPCM audio, accompanied by English and German subtitles. It is a region-free release, featuring dubbed audio options in English (US and UK), Japanese, and Castilian Spanish.
