Boasting it to the be “widest opening of an Anime Film Ever” and having “[garnered] both critical and fan acclaim”, CrunchyRoll has today confirmed that Toei Animation’s Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero brought in over (approximately) $20.1 million in the North American domestic box office during its opening weekend.
According to CrunchyRoll, this figure is broken down into the following by-day numbers:
Thursday: $4,303,671
Friday: $6,584,653 (revised)
Saturday: $5,768,686
Sunday: $3,450,000 (estimate)
CrunchyRoll are also boasting that the film, on its opening weekend alone, puts it as the “#6 anime film in U.S. box office history”. Of course, it helps that this was the largest theatrical release done by CrunchyRoll to date, featuring 4,000+ screens in over 3,100 cinemas – including premium formats including IMAX, 4DX, Dolby Cinemas, MX4d, and DBox.
