It may not be the same console version that it available in Japan, but MangaGamer have begun re-releasing 07th Expansion’s renown Higurashi no Naku Koro ni sound novel series as new ‘Hou’ editions. At the moment, they are going arc-by-arc, with each instalment featuring updated sprites and a handful of other features compared to the original editions which MangaGamer have also published previously. This is also the first time that the sound novel series will be available for purchase via Steam, being available simultaneously to the standard release via the MangaGamer online store.
After launching Higurashi When They Cry Hou: Onikakushi back in May 2015, the publisher have confirmed that Higurashi When They Cry Hou – Ch 2 Watanagashi is now available for purchase and download. As those familiar with the series will already know, this is the arc where readers are first introduced to Shion Sonozaki. Who exactly is Shion? Is she really Mion’s twin sister, an alter ego, a split personality or someone completely different? This is one of the major question arcs in Higurashi, so don’t expect more mysteries than answers in this arc.
Higurashi When They Cry Hou is all-ages friendly, although would be more appropriate for those who are least in their teens. It is currently priced $7.95 via the MangaGamer online store and Steam.
