CLANNAD Launches Onto Steam in English Following Successful Crowdfunding Campaign

-

In news which should excite visual novel fans, Sekai Project have launched their English localised version of KEY / VisualArts’ romantic visual novel CLANNAD onto Steam. This follows a Kickstarter campaign where they managed to raise $541,161 from 5,819 backers, and comes more than a decade after the title first arrived on store shelves in Japan.

This 2015 release comes with a number of improvements and features compared to the original version including a HD Upgrade (All visuals are now in 1280×960), the “Dangopedia” (A term encyclopedia which is designed as a nifty reference tool to understanding aspects of Japanese tradition and pop culture) and the support of Steam achievements.

Those looking to purchase CLANNAD through Steam can pick up a digital copy for $49.99 (£29.99, 45,99€), with a 15% off discount available for a limited time. At this time, CLANNAD is only available digitally for Windows-based PCs.

The past 11 months have been a rollercoaster ride of dedication and determination from a truly hard working team. I sincerely hope that everyone will get as much fun out of playing and reading through CLANNAD, as we all did working on it!

Unfortunately the physical and digital versions were not released simultaneously. Those who supported the crowdfunding campaign and opted to receive only a physical edition of CLANNAD will potentially have to wait a few more months until all physical goodies (and CLANNAD itself) are sent out.

ABOUT CLANNAD

CLANNAD follows the story of Hikarizaka Private High School student Tomoya Okazaki, an emotionally-distant delinquent student. After losing his mother in an accident and subsequently falling victim to an abusive, alcoholic father, Okazaki meets a strange young girl, Nagisa Furukawa, who is repeating the year due to a severe illness. Furukawa enlists Okazaki to help revive their school’s drama club. With nothing much else going on in his life, Okazaki agrees to help, making friends with many of the school’s other students along the way, and learning about all of the different problems and challenges that they face…
