STRIKEWORKS and Nyu Media have confirmed that their visual novel production software, TyranoBuilder Visual Novel Studio, is now available for purchase on Windows and Mac OS computers via Steam. For the first week of launch, the software will be available at a 15% discount ($12.74 USD).
Described by them as “the EASIEST, FASTEST way to create multi-platform visual novels”, this will allow anyone to create visual novels on their Windows and Mac device for a one-time price of $14.99 through Steam. Created games can be produced and exported for general PC use, browsers and both iOS / Android platforms through free third party software. With other visual novel creation tools such as Ren’Py on the market, time will tell if this becomes a popular option for new development teams.
Given that use of this tool still requires additional resources including character portraits and backgrounds, I am curious if TyranoBuilder will go down a similar route as RPG Maker and offer additional (paid) resource packs to help people starting out with visual novel development.
