Even if you have not heard of him, there is a good chance you might have heard of his visual/sound novels or watched one of his series adapted as an anime series. Ryukishi07 is the mastermind behind the Higurashi no Naku Koro ni, Umineko no Naku Koro ni and Higanbana no Saku Yoru ni as well as playing a role in a number of other series including KEY’s Rewrite. Under his group 07th Expansion, he has revealed on his blog that he will be launching a new serial title this year. There is currently no word on if this will be a part of the “When They Cry” series or a completely new series entirely – but has been mentioned to take part in a completely different world setting.
His sound novel series Higurashi: When They Cry is available in English split up into two parts published by MangaGamer. His other serial sound novel series Umineko no Naku Koro ni has not received an official release but all 8 arcs have been translated and can be applied to a legal purchase of Episode 4 and Episode 8 of the games. Both releases have also received console ports by Alchemist as well as spin-off games. The anime adaptation of Higurashi no Naku Koro ni was dubbed by Geneon Entertainment years ago however has not been relicensed since they dropped out of the anime market. Siren Visual is currently distributing the first season in Australia with the second season Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kai due for subtitled release in March.
