Creators of PaRappa The Rapper and The Gitaroo Man Launch Kickstarter Campaign for New Rhythm-Action Game 1

A new Kickstarter campaign has begun, this time for a new rhythm-action game developed by the creators of music games PaRappa The Rapper and Gitaroo Man. Known as Project Rap Rabbit at this time, this will be a collaborative project between Masaya Matsuura of Nana-On Sha and Keiichi Yano of iNiS J, both of whom have quite a lot of experience in this genre.

The ambition of Project Rap Rabbit is to “see the rebirth of narrative-driven rhythm-action”. This will take place in an alternate version of 16th Century Japan, where the world has grown more hostile as the citizens grow concerned by the growing diversification of their lands. It is here where a young rabbit farmer named Toto-Maru steps up to unify his home. How? Through the power of rap, he finds he’s able to influence the world’s ruling powers. So he sets forth to challenge the world’s rulers to rap battles…

According to the announcement, Project Rap Rabbit will “allow gamers to alter the flow of their rap battle in real time, changing the lyrics and emotional direction on the fly, as they look to best their opponents in dynamic one-on-one encounters”. Furthermore, they state that Matsuura and Yano will “continue to embrace the elements that have made their games so beloved by fans: narrative, freedom of expression and soul”.

The goal of this Kickstarter campaign for Project Rap Rabbit is to generate £855,000, of which they have currently had £56,614 from 925 Backers with 35 Days to go. They still have plenty of time to reach their goal, and seem to be making decent progress towards it. You can read more about the planned gameplay systems, pledge rewards and more via the game’s official Kickstarter page.

If successful, they are looking at an August 2018 release on the PC and PlayStation 4.
