2016 is another significant year for both Microsoft and Sony, with each offering their own revised edition of their current-generation consoles this year. From Microsoft’s Xbox team, their offering was the Xbox One S – delivering High Dynamic Range (HDR) gaming, 4K streaming and a 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray player among other things (Most notably in my opinion, being approximately 40% smaller than the original).
Citing NPD Group Sales Data (Console Unit Sales August 1st – October 30th), Microsoft have noted that during the period covered by the data, the Xbox One has been the “best-selling videogame console in Australia since the launch of the Xbox One S”. Time will tell if these numbers continue with Sony Interactive Entertainment’s recent launch of the PlayStation 4 Pro.
Microsoft / Xbox Australia have also noted that the response from Aussies to Forza Horizon 3 has “been incredible”. Although a little unsurprisingly given the game is set in Australia, the Playground Games developed open-world racer has proven to be not only the most successful Forza launch ever in Australia, but also the best-selling Xbox One game of 2016 in the country.
