New Gameplay Trailers Released for Caligula

-

A few months ago, it was announced that FuRyu and Aquria are collaborating on a new JRPG known as Caligula.

Caligula takes place in the virtual world of Mobius, with its inhabitants (also known as “students”) unknowingly trapped in what is described as an ideal high school life. While they have been forced to repeat their school lives over and over again with no knowledge of their former lives, some students have recognised their situation and have decided to fight against their fate. Forming a club, they work towards this goal and their eventual escape. However things begin to get more complicated when some of the club members suffered in their former lives… and may not be so willing to return to reality.

With its PlayStation Vita launch date drawing closer, the developers have recently shared two new gameplay trailers for the title. The first of these details the game’s battle system, where each character can utilise Catharsis, Battle and Affection Effects to tackle whomever stands in their way. One of the more unique features of this battle system is that you can visualise what impact your moves will have prior to actually performing them. Here’s hoping that in practice, it will enable players to craft some creative combos.

The second video details a variety of the gameplay elements present in Caligula. Each of the students residing in Mobius have an erosion rate, which once it reaches a certain level, can cause students to become enemies. This video highlights what these battles might look like, among other aspects of the game’s in and out of battle mechanics.

Caligula is set for release on the PlayStation Vita in Japan starting June 23rd. No western release has been announced, although this is a title I could see being localised into English.
