The Tale of SMT IV Continues With Shin Megami Tensei IV: Apocalypse

A few years ago, Shin Megami Tensei IV allowed players to look into the sacrifices and heroics made by the Samurai of the Eastern Kingdom of Mikado. But this is not the only story that ATLUS have to share in the universe. Serving as a game which overlaps with the original tale albeit following a new cast of characters, ATLUS USA have confirmed their intentions to localise and publish Shin Megami Tensei IV: Apocalypse on the Nintendo 3DS.

Shin Megami Tensei IV: Apocalypse shifts its attention to a nameable hunter cadet who unfortunately meets an untimely end as the game begins. But using the machinations of the god Dagda, he is resurrected under the god’s servitude. The protagonist then becomes a pawn in a much larger plot which skirts the boundaries of peace and anarchy.

Like its predecessor, Shin Megami Tensei IV: Apocalypse is an RPG which will see players negotiate, recruit and battle their way through battles – going up against more than 450 enemies in a post-apocalyptic Tokyo. While the full experience of this world will be gained by having played Shin Megami Tensei IV, ATLUS USA claim that prior knowledge is not compulsory.

Shin Megami Tensei IV: Apocalypse will be available in North America in “Summer 2016” for $49.99 USD. A PAL region release is up in the end, but if SMT IV is anything to go by, we could be in for a wait.

The Story of Shin Megami Tensei IV: Apocalypse

The story of Shin Megami Tensei IV: Apocalypse is one of human pawns being shuffled across a chessboard by the higher deities. One lone Hunter, the game’s protagonist, meets an early demise and through a pact with a lesser god, is brought back to life in exchange for his pledge of servitude. From there, the protagonist allies with other Hunters in the ruins of post-apocalyptic Tokyo beginning a plot that crosses over with the events of the original Shin Megami Tensei IV.
