July Release Date Unveiled for I Am Setsuna

Endir_and_Setsuna-ResizedOne of Square Enix’s newest video game development studios is Tokyo RPG Factory, which has a focus on Japanese RPGs. In particular, the studio seeks to revisit the ethos and practices used to develop games in the 16-bit era of gaming, and re-introduce the classic JRPG style to current hardware. During the 2016 Game Developers Conference, it was unveiled that the studio is currently working on its first title known as “I Am Setsuna“.

While there is presumably still a lot more about the game to be unveiled in the months leading to launch, Square Enix have confirmed that this game will be available starting July 19th 2016 on the PlayStation 4 and Windows PC (via Steam).

They have also shared new character illustrations and screenshots which focus on the heroine Setsuna and her bodyguard Endir. Endir, the main playable character, is a skilled mercenary whose destiny is changed upon meeting Setsuna. Setsuna on the other hand is described as a young woman of incredible inner strength, with the story detailing the sacrifice she must undertake to save the people of her land.  Square Enix hope that players will be immersed in an emotional and unforgettable story of true bravery, as Setsuna leaves her hometown with her bodyguards on a journey to the farthest land.

I am Setsuna seeks to offer both “beautiful art and game design which harkens back to Japanese role-playing game classics of yesteryear”. They have noted that the game will include features inspirted by classics, such as the battle system from Chrono Trigger.
