Australian and New Zealand Field Test Applications Open for Pokémon Go

The Pokemon franchise is set to branch out onto the smartphone market this year, with Niantic and The Pokemon Company collaborating on a new augmented reality game known as Pokemon Go. Having generated quite a buzz since being announced in the latter months of 2015, this game will give players a chance to potentially live out their childhood (or present) fantasy. Trainers will be able to catch, train, trade and battle the 720 currently known Pokemon without being confined to a gaming system, providing what seems to be a more realistic experience than ever before.

But with a game in which the entire planet is its world, developer Niantic claim to have a lot to test before they publicly launch in the coming months. This, of course, means public field testing! Today they have announced that field testing applications are now open for those residing in Australia and New Zealand. Successful applicants will be given access to pre-release builds of Pokemon Go, where their feedback will be used to help them iterate, polish and ultimately make the game launch ready.

Pokemon Go will require access to either an Android Phone with Android 4.3 or above (Intel Atom-based Android devices not supported at this time) or an iPhone 5 with iOS 8 and above. For more information on other selection criteria and to apply, click HERE.

Will you catch em’ all? Time shall tell!
