Wii Games to Finally Start Becoming Downloadable on the Wii U

Unlike the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, the Wii U gaming console offers some form of backwards compatibility to its predecessor (Nintendo Wii). However while you have been able to pop a Wii disc into your console and enjoy it, Nintendo have until now not allowed players to download Wii games to their console. A wasted opportunity if you ask me.

Nintendo have today confirmed that players will be able to download Wii games directly to their Wii U home menu via the Nintendo eShop, without the need to log into the Wii Mode. Unfortunately they are kicking off this campaign with just one game, Super Mario Galaxy 2, with a new game or set of games seemingly being released every week. Next week will see the release of Donkey Kong Country Returns while the week after will see Metroid Prime Trilogy hit the eShop.  Other upcoming games include Kirby’s Adventure Wii, Pandora’s Tower, Punch-Out!! and Sin & Punishment: Successor of the Skies (Which is making its Australian debut).

Super Mario Galaxy 2, Donkey Kong Country Returns and Metroid Prime Trilogy will be on sale for a special price of AU$13.00 (NZ$17.00) during their first week of availability. After the first week, these games will be available for AU$26.00 (NZ$34.00).
