Sid Meier’s Starships Announced by 2K Games and Firaxis Games

-

Building upon the universe they first presented to gamers in Civilization: Beyond Earth, Firaxis Games and 2K have announced a new game by the title Sid Meier’s Starships. This will be a new turn-based adventure-driven interstellar strategy game, that seeks to expand the science fiction universe by pitting players in the role of a fleet commander after the age of Seeding. The goal is for the player to build their fleet/federation and go on missions to explore the galaxy, protect other planets, save lives and become the foundations of a new age of peace across the galaxy.

Each new campaign that the player sets out on will come with its own distinct galactic strategy map of worlds, featuring dynamically generated tactical combat missions that will not be the same for either two players or two playthroughs. More information will be unveiled during the semi-annual Firaxis Megapanel on January 24th 2015 at 11AM CT in San Antonio TX.

Sid Meier | Director of Creative Development at Firaxis Games

When designing Starships, I was intrigued by the idea of exploring the next chapter in the story of Civilization: Beyond Earth. What happens after we colonize our new home and eventually build starships to take to the stars? What has become of our long-lost brothers and sisters from the planet Earth? My goal was to create an experience that focuses on starship design and combat within a universe filled with interstellar adventure, diplomacy, and exploration.
