A video game deciding to embrace downloadable content isn’t always exciting news, especially when you get the genuine feeling that content that should have been available out-of-the-box has been set aside to be purchased at a later date for a few extra bucks. Natsume have today announced that after many iterations in the series, that they will be finally introducing DLC in the Harvest Moon series. The first set has been released today for Harvest Moon: The Last Valley on the Nintendo 3DS.

Fortunately given its more family-oriented nature, the content will seemingly be free (At least the first set) and will introduce content requested by fans after playing the game. The first DLC pack includes new additions to the player’s dresser – new outfits and hairstyles. The new outfits will include clothing for both the female protagonist and the male protagonist. Each will receive a trio of outfits, including a new Dairy Farmer outfit for each. Both will also receive a new hairstyle. The new content can be accessed from a player’s dresser. If players have not yet built the dresser, they can do so by talking to Doc, the eccentric inventor.

Future DLC packs will consist of new items to customize the Lost Valley, new crops, recipies and more. Natsume have even hinted that “new love is in the air”. I sincerely hope that given Harvest Moon is a more family oriented franchise, that they don’t decide to charge too much if at all for future DLC sets.

We made a promise with Harvest Moon: The Lost Valley that we would continue to innovate and listen to our fans and their feedback, and by providing the first-ever DLC for a Harvest Moon game, we are keeping that promise. January’s additions are only the beginning…we are excited to bring fans a variety of new content to shape their valleys in new ways in the coming months.
