Continuing on from where 2012’s Persona 4 Arena left off, ATLUS USA have today confirmed their North American release of Persona 4 Arena Ultimax on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 systems. Developed by ATLUS and Arc System Works, Persona 4 Arena Ultimax ditches the traditional Megami Tensei RPG battle system for an arcade fighting experience reminiscent of Blazblue – with many of the (still alive) characters from Persona 3 and Persona 4 making a playable appearance.

In P4AU, the characters from Persona 4 and Persona 3 once again find themselves teaming up to face off in the P-1 Climax, a series of battles which must be won before the world ends. The original cast of characters from Persona 3 and 4 are back to discover the mastermind behind the whole tournament, while a few new faces join the fight, including Junpei Iori, Yukari Takeba, Rise Kujikawa, and more. But standing in their way is the dual katana-wielding Sho Minazuki, a huge threat to everyone involved in the P-1 Climax. Worse yet, there’s a Sho lookalike who can wield a Persona…

In addition to the story mode, players can also challenge themselves in Arcade Mode, Score Attack Mode, Golden Arena Mode, which lets players earn experience and customize their fighter with skills. And of course, P4AU features a robust set of local or online competitive multiplayer.

Even if you have yet to receive your copy of the game, it is strongly recommended you download the free DLC characters Marie and Adachi, who will be removed from free distribution on October 7th, 2014.
