Despite many developers moving towards the DLC scene more for additional in-game content, Nintendo’s first party titles have generally involved providing a “full experience” for a game at launch. This has today changed with the company confirming that two new downloadable add-on content packs will be released around the world from Mario 8.

With the first pack set to hit store shelves from November 2014 and the second to be released during May 2015 (Approximately a year since the game first launched), these are clearly not sets they are rushing out to fans while the interest is still hot. Each of these packs are priced at $10.00 AUD each (or $16.00 AUD for the set), and will deliver two new cups with four courses each, new characters and new vehicles. Further information on the content of both packs can be found below:

Pack 1: The Legend of Zelda X Mario Kart 8 (Release: November 2014) – AU$10.00 (NZ$14.00)

    • 3 Characters: Tanooki Mario, Cat Peach, Link
    • 4 Vehicles
    • 8 Courses

Pack 2: Animal Crossing X Mario Kart 8 (Release: May 2015) – AU$10.00 (NZ$14.00)

    • 3 Characters: Villager, Isabelle, Dry Bowser
    • 4 Vehicles
    • 8 Courses

Some of the new tracks will include classics such as Wario’s Gold Mine from Mario Kart Wii, while the new tracks will also feature crossovers into the realm of Animal Crossing and Legend of Zelda franchises. New vehicles will include the Blue Falcon Kart which represents the F-Zero franchise, which at this time does not have a respective character included in either pack. Buying both packs will also instantly provide players with eight different-coloured Yoshi and eight different-coloured Shy Guys that can be used immediately.

To (pre)-purchase the packs prior to release, users with a broadband Internet connection can click the new ‘Shop’ icon in the game or visit Nintendo eShop on Wii U. But the question must be asked…. will there be as much interest for DLC content in a year-old game?
