The video game industry has always been a volatile one, and with ever-changing interests, major platform shifts (eg. The rise of smartphone/tablet gaming) and many other matters, it is not a rarity for studios to open its doors, merge or shut down forever. Irrespective of how big a studio is, it is always saddening to see one having to close down, where staffers might be without a job and creative minds which could have worked on the “next big game” are no longer together.
Just weeks after their major multiplatform release of Murdered: Soul Suspect, done in collaboration with Square Enix, it is being reported that Airtight Games has quietly shut down. Things have been pretty quiet from the studio since June, however they posted what could be their last messages via Twitter a few hours ago:
Thanks to all of the fans, family, friends and colleagues who supported us and made the last 10 years possible.
