While console editions may not always contain all the features present in the PC release, Sony Computer Entertainment have announced the reception has been strong enough for Minecraft (PS3) that they will be releasing a physical edition to retail outlets on May 15th, 2014. This follows on from the December 2013 digital release via the PlayStation Store which has been downloaded by more than 1.5 million users.
The new PlayStation 3 edition comes equipped with all the features present in other console editions of Minecraft, including all the new content present in Update 14 such as Emeralds, Ender Chests and potatoes.
This release will be followed be PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita editions later this year. Will there finally be an opportunity to see the PS4 edition become a direct port of Minecraft on the PC?
