While they may have bridged the gap with a now defunct online service and the Rising spin-off last year, we have not seen a major numbered instalment in the Metal Gear Solid franchise for more than five and a half years. After all that waiting, there is only a week remaining until Konami release Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes on last and current generation Microsoft / Sony video game consoles.
The publisher has today shared the launch trailer of the game ahead of its release, showcasing new footage which highlights vital new additions to the series – including a glimpse at the new open-world environment, weather effects and an improved AI engine. Given that the main quest purportedly only a couple of hours to finish… just how much these new features contribute to the overall experience has yet to be determined.
Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes takes place in 1975 and acts as an introduction to the forthcomingMetal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. Ground Zeroes focuses on the legendary Big Boss – a stealth operative – as he infiltrates a secret Cuban prison base called ‘Camp Omega’ on a rescue mission. Alone behind enemy lines, the game reveals a total freedom of movement within its missions, with users choosing how they engage guards, the route they pick, and which prisoners they rescue.
