Fighter Within – Game Review

With the Xbox One offering a larger launch line-up than the Playstation 4 did, it becomes more vital for players to divvy up their gaming funds between select titles as it may not be practical to buy all of them at once. Despite the console coming with the Kinect 2.0 device bundled in with it, while some games throw in selective Kinect support, Fighter Within is one of the few to offer full integration with the device. Unfortunately while Ubisoft and Daoka produced a visually impressive game – there was very little on offer if you are like myself and want to follow a single-player campaign.

Granted that playing with friends can give you an hour or two of enjoyment through the co-op modes, the single-player campaign was lacking any decent storyline and the computer-controlled AI never offered the challenge it should have had.

Despite not having any issues with Ubisoft’s own Just Dance 2014 on the Xbox One, the controls through the Kinect 2.0 system were also frustrating – handling upper body motion well but any lower body movements required several attempts to get out.

I honestly don’t think Fighter Within is a terrible game and given a few updates may turn out to be a solid Kinect game that the Xbox One really needs more of. However as it stands at this moment and given the $80 AUD price tag it is currently going for, you would be better waiting for a price reduction as there are currently more enjoyable games on the market.
