Creative Intelligence Arts Launch Kickstarter for Project Phoenix – Reach $100,000 Target in Under Nine Hours

-

With so many video games making their way onto the Kickstarter crowdfunding platform, while some struggle to get the funding for mediocre funding targets, other campaigns thrive and meet six digit figure goals in the matter of hours. Project Phoenix is of the latter.

Boasting some big names in the industry of a multicultural background, Creative Intelligence Arts yesterday launched their crowdfunding campaign for their JRPG with squad based real-time-strategy design Project Phoenix which is planned for release during 2015. While starting their campaign with a pledge target of $100,000… gamers and potential fans have flocked to the page with the goal being met in less than nine hours and them teetering on the edge of doubling that sum with $180,586 and 29 days still to go.

This is how the development team described their upcoming title:

Project Phoenix is a fantasy themed squad-based real-time strategy game combined with Japanese RPG design influences.  The game draws you in with its breathtaking fantasy world, deep storyline, Japanese character designs, and a memorable cast, most notably, the band of heroes under your command.  Furthermore, its intuitive real-time tactical combat is dynamic, fluid, and streamlined, allowing you to experience the strategic options without being bogged down by overwhelming archaic battle systems.

Throughout the adventure, players will piece together the mysteries of an angel with amnesia and travel through the land of Azuregard with an unusual band of heroes searching for answers.

Who is on the development team? While they are still hiding the names of their Art Supervisor (Described as being behind some very famous anime that everyone knows) and their Lead Programmer… a sizable portion of the main team have been confirmed:

Director & Producer: Hiroaki Yura (Japan / Australia)
Game Designer: Vaughan Smith (Australia)
Scenario Writer: Yoko Enoki (Japan)
Senior Editor: Bill Benfield (UK)
Art Director / World Concept Artist: Kiyoshi Arai (Japan)
Lead Artist: GONTARO (Japan)
Character Designer / Monster Designer: Take-B (Japan)
Lead Cinematic Artist: Koya Takahashi (Japan)
Lead 3D Modeler: Steffen Unger (Germany)
Lead Composer: Nobuo Uematsu (Japan)
Sound Engineer: John Kurlander (US / UK)
Casting, Voice Acting and Singer: Donna Burke (Australia)
Community Team: Larry Oji (US)

Of course there will be some stretch goals for the game which go all the way up to the $1,650,000 mark (Ambitious eh?). These goals are as follows:

$300,000: Double the amount of character and monster models. Uematsu writes additional extended music.
$650,000: Detailed City System (Full modelling of the cities and towns). Customizable character creation.
$1,025,000: Fully explorable overworld complete with an upgraded combat transition. Fight inside the Kraken.
$1,650,000: Two additional zones, side stories, Eminence x Uematsu x Kurlander collaboration.

While we have yet to see any actual in-game footage yet, it does sound like the game I would play on next-generation consoles such as the Playstation 4 and Xbox One. While they are looking into having it release for the Playstation 4 at least, they have only committed themselves to a release on the PC, Mac and Linux – as well as an alternate release on Android and iOS devices.

The world is changing…

The orcish clans, mankind’s ancient enemy, have begun migrating from the mountains and their raids upon human settlements become more brazen and audacious by the day.  If this wasn’t enough, the denizens of the southern coastal regions hear rumor of the free men who, once vanquished, have emerged, more organized than before, all with the goal of toppling the Empire. Amidst the stirrings of war, the elves watch a fateful star and recognize it as a portent that will decide the fate of all those who live in Azuregard.

It is within these tumultumous times that the troubled paladin Marcus Stern encounters Ruffles, an angel stricken with amnesia. Together with the elven princess Sylrianah, reserved but curious to see the world beyond the forest, and Zarum the Lost, a battlemage with his own internal conflicts, they form an unlikely bond. These four heroes must discover their place in a world brought to war by misunderstanding and ignorance, and perhaps ultimately even save it from itself.
