Namco Bandai Launch Playstation 3 / Playstation Network Exclusive Free-to-Play Title Tekken Revolution

-

Namco Bandai Games have today launched their free-to-play title Tekken Revolution, their latest installment in the multi-million copy selling Tekken franchise which has been a staple in the gaming industry since its 1994 release in arcades. Tekken Revolution is exclusive to the Playstation 3 platform via the Playstation Network – and is set to bring the same Tekken gaming experience free to charge to potentially millions of Playstation 3 owners.

Crafted by the team at Namco Bandai’s internal Tekken development team, Tekken Revolution provides fighting game fans and newcomers alike the hard-hitting gameplay of the acclaimed franchise. When you begin you can choose from an initial cast of eight iconic Tekken characters to train and battle with against AI opponents in Arcade Mode as well as other players in both the staple Ranked and Player Match modes. New bone-crushing special moves have been implemented and some command inputs revised to lower the barrier of entry for new players and allow advanced players to employ new strategies.

A for for the series is that players will be able to level-up their characters, increasing three key attributes – Strength, Endurance and Vigor. I can personally see this being a double-edged sword as while it does allow you to cater your character to your play style using a standard online game stat increasing mechanic – it can become focused less on ability and more about who has the higher leveled character.

Katsuhiro Harada | Tekken Series Director

We are extremely proud that the TEKKEN franchise will be the first in the fighting game genre to adopt the free-to-play business model for the console market. By going free-to-play, we hope to open up the fighting game community to a larger audience. We are excited to see everyone’s reaction to the Special Arts, Critical Arts, and the character enhancement system but we also have several major updates with added content scheduled so we hope everyone will stay tuned!
