With Australia’s R18+ classification for video games coming into effect starting at the beginning of this year, it has been exciting to see just what cames will fall under this category – both soon to be released games and games that initially fell outside of the previous maximum classification of MA15+. It seems like one potential fan of the XSEED Games release of Corpse Party on the PSP asked on the companies official forums if there will be an Australian release…. which received a response from Tom (Wyrdwad), a member of staff (Localization Specialist I believe) at XSEED Games.

It’s only recently that it’s actually become POSSIBLE to release these games in Australia and New Zealand, however, since you guys didn’t have an R18 rating until this month, and Corpse Party would’ve never qualified for R15.
But now that the R18 rating exists, it’s definitely something we can look into. Contrary to what a lot of Australian gamers seem to think, too, we HAVE been looking into releasing our back catalogue of games on the AUS/NZ PlayStation Store, and will continue to pursue that. Remember, though, we’ve never gotten a game rated using your system before, and we also have no contacts whatsoever with anyone at Sony down there, so this isn’t something we can do quickly or easily. There’s a lot of legal stuff to take care of, a lot of back-and-forth emailing, and a lot of confusion to work through. We’re less than a dozen strong here, after all, and we’ve only been releasing games outside North America for about 2 years. We’re still pretty new at this whole international thing!
Sorry to keep you waiting, though, nonetheless. Be patient, and hopefully, good things will come.
While it is nothing formal or even official, it is promising and I am sure many of my Aussie readers will be ecstatic if Corpse Party or even other XSEED Games titles that have yet to be released over here make their way to the Australian and New Zealand Playstation Store. The second PSP game in the Corpse Party series – Corpse Party: Book of Shadows has just been released in North America and is due out in Europe very soon.
I really hope this happens – honestly, I think it should even be MA, since our ratings board is more concerned with visual rather than descriptive. I’d love to play this game on my Vita.
