With the main Tales games prior to Tales of Xillia, Namco Bandai usually ended up releasing it on another console before doing an enhanced Playstation 3 port – and maybe this worked in their favor. However, with Tales of Xillia they released it directly on the Playstation 3 and had ended up being the most preordered Tales game and one of the best selling games in the series of all time – from memory even outselling Final Fantasy XIII-2 in initial sales which was launched in the region at around the same time.
It turns out they want to set in next game in the same world with Namco Bandai announcing Tales of Xillia 2 at the recent Tales of Festival event. The trailer above shows that they will be bringing in a new set of characters including main male character Ludgar and Lulu – the little girl who seems to be critical to the storyline. There is no word on if characters from the previous game will be playable or will have cameo appearances – but I would be expecting them.
A few new gameplay features were announced including the ability to direct the storyline in different directions through selections with the L1/R1 button, and the battle system which is being named XDR LBMS (or Cross Double Raid, Linear Battle Motion System). Nothing much else has been announced on this game for the time being, but expect more information to come along on the 27th June 2012. The games official website is open HERE.
