The people have spoken… well voted. As I mentioned last week, Lexis Numerique decided to hold a survey on their Facebook page to determine if they should drop the North American price to $9.99 to equal the North American value of Microsoft Points or to keep the price at $12.99 to keep it in line with the European value of 800 Microsoft Points. There was a catch to this however… as if more people said yes to a price drop – it would result in a one week delay due to restrictions on the Playstation Network.
In the end, 70% of voters said yes while 30% said no. Therefore, the Playstation Network version in America will now be released on the 17th January 2012. The XBox Live version will still be released as scheduled, as will the Playstation release in every other region. The publishers also left these statements on their wall:
1. Once again, the initial move might have been awkward, but it was a good-faith attempt to balance the price difference of MS Points that are more expensive in Europe that in the US. We now realize that we won’t be the ones to find a fair solution to avoid European players to pay their games at a higher price than in the US, as has been the case for years. But at least we tried…
2. To those of you who believe this was an attempt to make a few more bucks, we need to precise that we initially wanted to sell AMY at 1200 points, but this would have meant a high price for European players. In addition, we believe AMY is a full game that could have been sold at a regular price at retail but we chose to go digital.
