Senran Kagura: Portrait of the Girls – All about Side-Scrolling Action and Insane Cosplay Potential!

-

Senran Kagura: Portrait of the Girls is an upcoming 3DS game that is due out mid-September in Japan and is all about side-scrolling fighting (Something like a mix between the Super Mario games and say… Blazblue) and of course, the fanservice appeal of the female characters. With a control system that involves forming combo’s with a mixture of weak/strong attack buttons as well as the ability to dash and jump, nothing much is there to set this game apart from others…. or is there?

As the above trailer shows, the game does have some solid visuals accompanied by what I would call above-average anime animations interweaved throughout the story – and a visual novel system that uses more up to date 3D portraits and animations over still character portraits which is quite nice. However, Siliconera have recently reported what may be one of the more popular appeals of this series – around 180 different cosplay outfits for your to dress your characters in – from your common school uniform and swimsuit combinations, to other more interesting ones such as Kigurumi cat and tiger outfits as pictured below:

Whilst I have my doubts about seeing this game in English anytime soon – I will be interested to see if this game is successful in Japan – as unfortunately 3DS region restrictions will disallow me from getting my hands on this game.
