New Hyperdimension Neptunia Mk-2 Trailer Shows Off Many New Improvements and Features

-

Originally when Hyperdimension Neptunia was released in English early this year, I pounced at the opportunity to check out a game that had all the character cast as humanoid versions of consoles and gaming companies. Whilst I loved the concept behind this, I struggled to give it anything above a B- score as some of the gameplay features were lacking. This latest gameplay trailer of Hyperdimension Neptunia Mk-2 alleviates some of my concerns about this upcoming sequel.

As you can easily see, this game (and the trailer doesn’t cover all of them I believe) has many more playable characters from both the original game (GUST, NISA) and many new ones such as RAM/ROM, CAVE et cetera. Which is good as the original game had you controlling the same three characters for most of the game. This includes previously DLC characters that will now be made available free.

Secondly, the attack skills have recieved an improvement. Remember in the first game how all the “Summon Discs” did was display a custom graphic in one of a handful of different styles – even the ones that came with the characters themselves? Thankfully they have given a few examples of improvements in this respect such as NISA attacking using a Prinny  and GUST summoning Atelier characters to assist her (Still artwork but better then nothing). Also, the quirky healing system that I didn’t mind but others seemed to dislike will be improved, with new character ROM having a healing spell.

Finally, the other big improvement is the portraits shown during conversation. Compile Heart have been slowly improving their interaction system from having standard character portraits to having portraits which have lip movements and now they have introduced the next addition to that system… 3D character portraits. Whilst I do like the 2D character portraits, I will be interested to see how these 3D ones are received.
