The Otaku's Gaming Study #2 - Surprise! There is actually more than one of these! 1

Welcome to the second The Otaku’s Gaming Study, where I consolidate all the important gaming news into one feature length article! This time around, there is only short selection of news that I would like to share, and the other set will come some time later this week. Why? Because of my following the EB Games X erm…. live chat? and also with my copy of Umineko no Naku Koro ni Episode 8 arriving, I blissfully played that this afternoon. However, I invite you to check out my following articles tonight:

  • More information revealed about EB Games X
  • Record of Agarest War Zero – Special Editions for NA and EU/AUS regions
  • NISA Press Event Upcoming
  • New Catherine screenshots from Atlus
  • Ghostlight hint at Catherine coming to EU regions
  • Atelier Meruru Development Done, TV Spot and Prologue video.

I have a bit more news to share in my next writeup, but it is now…. 10:30 as I start this article, and Sam needs his sleep!

2.1 More Information on EB Games X

Whilst the proper website for the convention will not be up until the 2nd of June, they have released a number of details regarding this event. As is already known, this event is known as EB Games X, and is going to be a brand new video gaming convention held at the Gold Coast Convention Center. Tickets will be available starting the 2nd of June, and will be available in two kinds, normal admission which costs $AUD 29.95 and VIP which costs $AUD 99.95. To purchase a normal admisison on the day, it will cost $AUD 31.95. The event will take place on the 15th and 16th of October.

The funny thing is, they are limiting the number of people that can attend the event. There will be a total of 13,800 normal and 1,200 VIP tickets available in total, whilst there will only be 4,600 and 400 tickets per session… with each session being a 6 hour interval. Rather odd them limiting it in both aspects, I have been to the Gold Coast Convention Center many times, and in comparison to the Supanova, which I think had a smaller area and held over 20,000 people, 15,000 is a bit questionable to me. Either way, sounds exciting. As a local to the area, I shall definitely be attending, and doing a live blog of the event!

Now, for the serious face. There was, what I suppose they called a Live Chat on their facebook wall this evening. Seriously guys, please realize that it is up to the company to determine where they hold their events, and just because they are holding it on the Gold Coast, a place where almost all the company events are held, doesn’t mean they are obligated to visit ever major city. I agree, it sucks, however I suppose it is the same as every event that Queensland doesn’t get and other states do. However, you could consider it a means of treating yourself to an October holiday in the Sunshine State!

Currently, only two companies have officially been announced…. UBISoft and EA. Whilst I wouldn’t expect American exclusive companies such as ATLUS or NISA to attend, I am sure you will find some interesting companies at the event, alongside gaming contests and cosplay, to name a few. 2.2 Record of Agarest War Zero Special Editions

As you may be aware, Aksys Games in America and GhostLight in the UK are bringing to us Record of Agarest Wars Zero, a sort of prequel to the first game. If you are curious about special editions for each company, images are below:

The Otaku's Gaming Study #2 - Surprise! There is actually more than one of these! 2

The above is the special edition from Ghostlight for European and Australian regions. The contents of this special edition include:

  • Black T-shirt (original design to Ghostlight) *GL pre-order item only*
  • Blu-ray PS3 game (with double sided inlay + colour manual)
  • A3 double sided poster showing on one side the concept drawing of the image used on the inlay and on the other the finished coloured artwork
  • Agarest: GoWZ Original Soundtrack.
  • 3 x 3D lenticular art cards
  • All of this will be packaged neatly in to a Collector’s Edition box.

Unlike the US version, Ghost Light will be only available on the Playstation 3 console and not the XBox360. For those interested, please check out their product page: http://www.ghostlight.uk.com/games/sony-ps3/agarest-generations-of-war-zero-collectors-ed-tshirt.html. As of this post, they are not taking pre-orders yet and there is no official date set.

The Otaku's Gaming Study #2 - Surprise! There is actually more than one of these! 3

Unlike the Ghost Light edition, Aksys Games are publishing both the PS3 and XBox360 versions of the game to the US regions. The contents of their special editions, are different then the GhostLight edition from my perspective:

The Limited Edition includes a 34-song soundtrack, a 48-pgcharacter data guide filled with artwork and stats of all playable characters, and a special card box that holds decksof Agarest-themed playing cards and collectible skill cards.

Further information can be obtained from: http://www.aksysgames.com. Regardless, each version has their own special editions, choose the same region as yours, choose a different region…. either way you still get the game~

2.3 Nippon Ichi Software America Press Event UPCOMING!

The Otaku's Gaming Study #2 - Surprise! There is actually more than one of these! 4

I am both very excited about this event, as heck, it means that we have more games coming from NISA from the long list of potential titles…. Atelier Totori…. Atelier Meruru….. Hyperdimension Neptunia mk.2…. one of the many other PSP and Playstation games they are long overdue to announce, and hell, I will throw in Umineko no Naku Koro ni as a possibility. But at the same time, it really makes me sad as whilst I recieve invitations to these events, I am unable to attend them as I cannot travel half way around the world.

However! They are allowing 10 people from the general public to attend their event this Friday. The link to apply is: http://nisamerica.com/pra/presseventform2011_x.php… I am not sure if it is too late to apply or what, but still, their events are apparently very good, with their locations of choice being top notch from website inspection, and the guest speakers they have there!

and yes… unlike the last few events where they have made it evidently obvious what games they are announcing, this is a complete mystery announcement event. The sky is the limit…. or at least how high you can reach the sky with Prinny corpses.

2.4 New Catherine Screenshots from ATLUS.

Here are a further 8 screenshots for Catherine, which is coming out late July, with special editions for the game mentioned in an earlier thread.

2.5 Ghostlight hint and Catherine and other title releases for PAL Regions

The Otaku's Gaming Study #2 - Surprise! There is actually more than one of these! 5

I quote the following from one of their company blogs, in which they surveyed the population what game they would like next from a range of ATLUS works.

Here at Ghostlight we’re always interested in finding out your thoughts on the important issues of our age such as what games do you want us to bring over here next?  However despite our success in arranging a Bank Holiday to celebrate the release of Persona 3 Portable we did not manage to get a referendum on this matter to be included in Thursday’s vote.  After such a setback who could have blamed us for slumping at our desks in defeat.  But overcoming such hardships is what we at Ghostlight do best (alongside releasing the best in Japanese gaming of course).  So as you know we ran a poll.

Thank you to everyone who entered.  We were overwhelmed by the number of responses and surprised by just how close the voting was.  The list of games that were mentioned is so long that we cannot list them all here. Instead I will list the top 4.

They are *drumroll*

In 4th place with 3.4% of the vote Trauma Team

In 3rdplace with 11.2% of the vote Persona 2 Portable

And in 2ndplace with 18.7% of the vote Devil Survivor: Overclocked

Which means the winner is Catherine with 22.1% of the vote.

As you can see there wasn’t much in it. This means that most of you are either looking into dark world of demonic sub culture or love walking around the nightmarish dream worlds that have sheep for men! Either way you are a pretty weird bunch Wink

Once again thanks to everyone that took part and congratulations to the winners. We hope the figures have taken pride of place in your collections.

Whilst it is nothing official yet, it does seem like a majority of voters wanted Catherine released, alongside Devil Survivor: Overclocked second. Who knows, this could potentially mean that those who fear ATLUS releasing a region locked version of Catherine for XBox360, might not have to worry so much.

Atelier Meruru Development Complete, TV Spot and “Prologue” trailers.

As announced on the official blog: http://ameblo.jp/arland-log/entry-10886505571.html of Atelier Meruru, the development of the game has been finished and the game is still slated release in Japan on the 23rd of June. Sadly, there is still no mention of even the game before, Atelier Totori, being released by NISA yet, so I would expect a fairly long wait for this game to hit our shores. However, this could be the game being announced on Friday. Also included was a TV Spot:

Which is of standard quality for a usual TV spot and shows off the gameplay mechanics which haven’t really changed much since Rorona, as well as the three protagonists (Meruru, Totori and chibi Rorona), and what I suppose would be other characters. More interesting, if not for the design more then anything else, is a prologue trailer, explaining the events of the previous games.

Regardless of the storyline showed in it, you have to admit the design and music used are very effective. The storyline is pretty easy to grasp through this trailer (For the original two games), even if you don’t understand a single word used.

and, that is it for tonight, I will do #3 sometime this week or early next week, as I have more content to share with you guys. I hope you all enjoy reading these, as I find it a lot more convenient to do big posts like this rather then smaller news posts of greater number, which are more likely to drown in the sea of posts.
