While the main post will all my anime and game awards will not be released until after Christmas, I have decided to list the game titles that will be in the running for my Game of the Year. The criteria to receive this award is as follows:
- The game must have been released in English OR received an original release this year.
- The game must have been reviewed on this site by Christmas Day 2011. Therefore this list may be amended in the line up to Christmas.
- The minimum overall score considered for inclusion will be an A-. All games with S-Grades will automatically qualify.
- There will of course, only be one winner and this will be determined by its contribution to the genre (So for example, platforming game X has equal chance as open world game Y).
- The determining party shall consist of yours truly!
You may find that there are a fair few titles on this list…. respective of the high quality of games released within 2011, but despite differences in scores I will be playing through each of them again to some extent and basing it on my own criteria – so that A- title has every chance of winning over some of the S rank ones.

somehow i felt like this shouldve been titled differently. like obscure japanese games of the year. or something.
general GOTY is more suitable for large sites like 1up, giantbomb or IGN bcuz they have a team of ppl to discuss experiences together and find the most outstanding game from that year, a shared consensus, a hard thing to do for one person. or better still – Sam’s picks for the year… etc.
your site is highly highly unusual. 2 visual novels on the nominees list… it’s already incredibly incredibly niche. it should be doing things your own way, not necessarily following the footsteps of the bigger sites.
Perhaps you are right, will keep it in mind for next year…. or will do the actual post with a similar title.
However, regardless it is the same topic either way…. a bunch of personal thoughts on games and picking one out of all of them to be crowned victor… that is all there is to it really if there is one person or a group of them. Just that I seem to have different tastes to a majority of the mainstream sites… Be pretty boring if everyone chose the same title.
But yeah, I do intend on restructuring things around a bit in the new year when I have more time.
