  • Despite being rather controversial outside of Japan after Seven Seas Entertainment tried to publish it, Kaworu Watashiya’s manga series Kodomo no Jikan has been relatively successful – seeing 12 volumes currently published, two anime series, a handful of OVA episodes and a novelization in the works. According to her Twitter feed however, it seems that the manga series will be ending soon. There are no specifics as to when it will end exactly, but the December issue of Comic High! has noted it is not much longer until the characters graduate from elementary school. • Cardcaptor Sakura (Omnibus) Book 1 Review ————— It was two months ago. I had just entered the fourth grade I came upon an old book in my dad’s library and from the moment I opened that book my days as a Clow Card Collector began…..  ————— Originally released as individual volumes by Tokyopop, Dark Horse Manga has since taken over the reins of the manga rights and been releasing the manga series as Omnibus releases. While there is something enjoyable about collecting individual volumes of manga, the decision of late for some manga companies to release several volumes in a...

  • Ken Akamatsu’s Negima manga series has been an example of a very successful franchise spanning over multiple anime and OVA series, several game releases on Playstation and Nintendo consoles and perhaps more importantly, a manga series that originally began in 2003 which has now seen over 350 chapters released. The series, which is a mixture of school-life, action, comedy, fanservice and romance genres has provided some interesting if not longish arcs was actually one of the titles which got me into collecting manga series after being released in English by Del Ray Manga and later Kodansha Comics USA. But as they...

  • Welcome to my first ever installment of The Otaku’s Manga Study, similar to my rehashed version of The Otaku’s Gaming Study where I dust off my bookcase and dig into some titles I unfortunately never got to cover when they were first released for one reason or another. As January has proven to be a rather quiet month it has given me a chance to revisit some of these titles and get the chance to review them whereas they might not have otherwise. I hope this will be the first of many reviews to reduce the number of older manga...

  • At The Otaku’s Study, I am always looking for things a bit more unique to review – and I feel I hit a jackpot with this series. No Starch Press over the last few years have been releasing “The Manga Guide To…” series in English, where each book has a different educational aspect such as Molecular Biology, Calculus or in the case of the one I am reviewing – Biochemistry. Each of these comes equipped with both an educational component and a storyline component and is worked on by some great Japanese academics. Here is a brief blurb about the...

Of course if you were not curious then I am sure you would have already skipped ahead to the second paragraph by now. I am not going to profess to be an expert in the inner workings on an...
