During their Otakon 2013 panel this weekend, North American anime and manga publisher Viz Media announced plans to release not a new title, but rather plans to re-release an older one. It was confirmed that Ranma 1/2 would be the lucky title to receive this treatment not only on the DVD but for the first time ever in North America on blu-ray.

Currently there is no word on how releases will be made (How many episodes per collection etc), the price or a hint at the release date. Aired between 1989 and 1991, Studio Deen (Whose most recent work includes Rozen Maiden: Zurückspulen) produced a total of 161 episodes in the original TV series… meaning this will most probably be spread over 26-52 episode collections.

This follows on from earlier announced plans to bring the original manga series from Rumiko Takahashi back into print using the omnibus format.
