Strawberry Marshmallow (Ichigo Mashimaro) - Volume 2 1

The same crazy setting as the first volume, only with imrpoved artwork, no alternating hairstyles and of course, brand new characters that add to the humour of the series. Artwork: I found that the artwork has improved immensely over the chapters, and it starts off really well in this volume. I found the character design of Ana to be very well done, and does carry over most of the features of a typical british girl rather well and throughout the volume, continuely makes mention to her heritage, even if she herself is losing it. The emotions I find are very well done as well, just as the last volume. Worry, anger, happiness etc are all evident, however they are in different ranges as well, so a worry might involve the normal panicked look however also can include a forced smile. Also, the christmas costumes are very kawaii~ and who can forget the comedic graphics, such as Nobue attacking the couple on Christmas Eve.

Characters: The newest edition to the gang, Ana, is a typical british girl who has unfortunately lost her ability to speak english, instead forced to resort to conversing in Japanese. Despite this however, she goes a different route and refuses to speak any Japanese in her new school, instead deciding to pull the “English girl who does not know how to speak Japanese” act however is very poor at it and accidently lets it slip to Matsuri, thus joining the group. The rest of the characters of course have their equal time, with their comedic acts all but improving!

Storyline: This manga doesn’t have a storyline of course, however, each individual chapter is pulled off very well, from a Christmas Eve delivery for Matsuri to everyone getting lost in a park with humerous side-effects including English-speaking tourists and car crashes!

Extras: The following extras are included:

  • Lots of kawaii artwork!
  • Hallo Work segment featuring artwork of Miu, Nobue, Chika, Matsuri, Ana and Sasazuka (Who is always in full cosplay) in different jobs ranging from “Amusement Park Atmosphere Performer” to “Policewoman
  • Next Volume Summary

  • Did I mention the Kawaii artwork?
Overall:
Artwork: 5
Chatacters: 5
Storyline: 5
Extras: 4
Personal Preference: 4.5
Total: 4.7 (A)
In the end, this series does remain a top notch comedy, whilst it may seem a bit too cuteish for some, most of the time, it is easy to look over it just for the sheer comedy of it all!
