Last week, Australian anime publisher Madman Entertainment confirmed they would be offering a new animated film via their AnimeLab video-on-demand service every Friday this month. After starting things off with Blue Exorcist the Movie, this week they will be offering one of my personal favourite titles, Wolf Children.

Wolf Children is the 2012 film directed by Mamoru Hosoda, whose other works include Summer WarsThe Boy and the Beast, and The Girl Who Leapt Through Time. This film follows a young woman named Hana, who meets and ultimately falls in love with an unnamed man, who is eventually unveiled to be a wolfperson able to change between wolf and humanoid forms. The couple have a modest yet happy lives, and Hana gives birth to two children prior to the father’s untimely demise. With both children having similar wolfperson abilities, this is a film about Hana overcoming obstacles which stand between her and her children’s happiness, and how she helps support them as they grow up and struggle to find their path in life.

Want to know more? You can read my full review of the film HERE. Also available is my 2013 interview with Hosoda, HERE.

This offer is only available for Premium Subscribers to the AnimeLab service. If you want to know more about the difference between a free and premium membership, click HERE.

Rather own a disc copy of Wolf Children? You can still grab yourself a DVD or Blu-ray copy through either the Madman Entertainment official online store, or your local retailer of anime.
