Australian Premiere of Sword Art Online: Ordinal Scale to Take Place at Madman Anime Festival Perth

Following their inaugural Madman Anime Festival in Melbourne this year, Australian anime publisher Madman Entertainment have confirmed they will be hosting three festivals in 2017 – one in each Perth, Brisbane and Melbourne. Starting to confirm some special events for the Perth leg of their festival tour, Madman have announced that the anticipated cinema screenings of Sword Art Online: Ordinal Scale will kick off at the festival on March 4th 2017.

Not able to make the festival? The good news is that you won’t have to wait long until the feature film arrives on screens across Australia and New Zealand. Country-wide screenings will begin on March 9th 2017, with cinemas and sessions to be confirmed at a date in the future.

Tickets to the Madman Anime Festival in Perth are now on sale. Unless you are a Madman Anime Festival VIP Pass Holder, tickets to the screening of Sword Art Online: Ordinal Scale will be separate from your admission ticket.

Screenings of Sword Art Online: Ordinal Scale will only be run with the original Japanese dub w/ English subtitles at this time.

About Sword Art Online: Ordinal Scale

In 2022, the world of virtual reality was upended by the arrival of a new invention from a genius programmer, Akihiko Kayaba. Called NerveGear, it was the first full-dive system and with it, came endless possibilities to VRMMORPGs.

In 2026, a new machine called the Augma is developed to compete against the NerveGear and its successor, the Amusphere. A next-gen wearable device, the Augma doesn’t have a full-dive function like its predecessors. Instead, it uses Augmented Reality (AR) to get players into the game. It is safe, user-friendly and lets users play while they are conscious, making it an instant hit on the market. The most popular game on the system is “Ordinal Scale” (aka: OS), an ARMMORPG developed exclusively for the Augma.
