Australian anime publisher Madman Entertainment came bearing two major theatrical announcements during the recent Supanova: Pop Culture Expo which was held in Perth this weekend.

#1 – Even More Rurouni Kenshin

Following what they have called a “breakthrough success” of the first Rurouni Kenshin film, Madman Entertainment have announced that they have also acquired the rights to the final two films in the Rurouni Kenshin trilogy – Rurouni Kenshin: Kyoto Inferno and Rurouni Kenshin: The Legend Ends.

After his ordeal with Udō Jin-e, Himura Kenshin’s brief period of peace is interrupted by the presence of Saito Hajime, the former captain of the Shinsengumi who assumed an alias in Tokyo’s police force. With Takani Megumi’s freedom at the balance, Kenshin learns that he is being enlisted in a covert operation at the city of Kyoto. There, Kenshin deals with a small army under the leadership of Hitokiri Battōsai replacement who was deemed a great enough threat to the Meiji government’s stability that they attempted to burn him alive: Shishio Makoto.

#2 – Heading to the Cinema with Dragon Ball Z

While it doesn’t seem to be part of what might be considered a main theatrical run of “Reel Anime 2014”, Madman Entertainment have announced that they will be holding a series of event screenings for Dragon Ball Z: Battle of the Gods across Australia and New Zealand in 2014. This will be the first theatrical release for the series in 17 years, and with original manga creator Akira Toriyama heavily involved, is set to be considered an official part of the Dragon Ball manga storyline

When Birus, The God of Destruction awakes from a long slumber, he learns of the defeat of the galactic overlord Freeza by the hands of Son Goku. Seeking an opponent worthy of his power, Birus, along with his companion Uis, travels to the North Quadrant of the universe to challenge Goku to a battle.

More information on screenings will be announced at a later date.
