Australian anime publisher Madman Entertainment have this afternoon announced their acquisition of the anime series Tokyo Ghoul. The company has acquired both simulcast and home video rights to the series, with the episodes to begin being streamed next month via their AnimeLab service direct from Japan. A home video release will follow at a later, unspecified date, however it quite likely won’t be for another year or two.

Tokyo Ghoul is an anime adaptation of Sui Ishida’s manga series of the same name. It is being produced by Studio Pierrot and directed by Shuhei Morita.

In modern day Tokyo, society lives in fear of ‘Ghouls’, mysterious creatures that look exactly like humans, yet hunger insatiably for their flesh. None of this matters to Ken Kaneki, a bookish and ordinary young man, until a dark and violent encounter turns him into the first ever ‘Ghoul’/human half-breed. Trapped between two worlds, Ken must survive the violent conflicts of warring Ghoul factions while attempting to learn more about Ghoul society, his newfound powers, and the fine line between man and monster.
