With the annual SMASH! (Sydney Manga and Anime Show) drawing closer, the event team have confirmed that they have extended an invite to anime director Toshihiro Kawamoto to attend their 2014 festivities. Toshihiro Kawamoto (川元 利浩) is best known for his role as the character designer and animation director of Cowboy Bebop, with many other roles in the industry over the years.
This is the second major guest announcement by the SMASH! team of late, recently confirming that Sailor Moon voice actress Kotono Mitsuishi will also be in attendance.

We are looking forward to having an incredibly talented animation director like Mr Kawamoto at this year’s SMASH! convention. Many Australian fans love classic shows such as Gundam and Cowboy Bebop. To have both Mr Kawamoto and Mrs Mitsuishi attending SMASH! 2014 is a dream come true for fans who grew up with these shows in the ‘90s and ‘00s.
Mr Kawamoto’s presence will not only bring excitement to the Gundam community but the anime community in general. This will be a great opportunity for aspiring illustrators and animators to learn from one of the industry’s best animation directors.
The Sydney Manga and Anime Show 2014 is set to take place on August 9 and 10, 2014. Tickets are set to be available for purchase from today, with prices ranging from $25 to $55.
