Sentai Filmworks Acquire Rights to Blade & Soul Anime Series

-

While the video games international release is pretty much in limbo, Sentai Filmworks have at the very least confirmed that they have picked up the rights to the anime adaptation of Blade & Soul which is currently airing in Japan and should be simulcast.

Produced by the animation studio GONZO (Of LastExile acclaim), Blade & Soul features co-direction by Hiroshi Takeuchi (The Big O, Bodacious Space Pirates) and Hiroshi Hamasaki (Steins;Gate, Ironman: Rise of Technovore) with original character designs by world renowned Korean manwha artist Hyung-tae Kim and art direction by Ken’ichi Tatefuji (Squid Girl, Supernatural: The Anime Series).

At the moment the series will only be available via digital platforms, with a home video release planned for a later date.

In a world where stunning beauty is menaced by evil, the up-and-coming Wind Empire struggles to defeat the empire of old and unite all races together in the dawning of a new age. Enter: Alka, a buxom, scantily-clad assassin looking to exact revenge for the death of her teacher, Hong. She’s on the hunt for his killer, Jin Varrel, a demonic dame that kills without remorse. Nevertheless, they are a part of the same “Blade Clan,” and Alka feels conflicted and sympathetic, as they are essentially one-in-the-same. While on her valiant quest for vengeance, Alka comes across a peculiar trio of winsome warriors: Hazuki, Karen, and Roana, each possessing a unique set of assets of her own. Will they help Alka in her conquest… or do they have their own plan in mind? Adapted from the popular videogame with visual elements based on the work by distinguished manwha-style artist, Hyung-Tae Kim, this series combines martial arts-inspired combat and Qing Gong action for a thrill ride like no other. Stay tuned as two sides of the same coin go head-to-head in a world where fantasy and adventure are busting at the seams in BLADE & SOUL!
