Late 90’s / Early 00’s anime series seem to be booming nowadays, where those like myself who grew up watching them on television are left with a desire to have a fix of nostalgia and enjoy them again as adults. While no English-language publisher has managed to get their hands on Sailor Moon for example, Samurai Pizza Cats and Digimon: Digital Monsters are two examples where internationally they have enjoyed strong reception for their re-releases.

Down here in Australia however… Madman Entertainment have nabbed their hands on Cardcaptor Sakura for which they did two half-series Japanese-dubbed releases back in 2012. Some were questioning if and when they would be publishing the movie adaptations. After more than a year of waiting, it was confirmed yesterday that Cardcaptor Sakura: The Movie will be released as part of a hybrid dubbed edition in June 2014.

Join Sakura and her friends on the most unbelievable adventure ever! Sakura wins a trip for 4 to Hong Kong; the place where Clow Reed, Kero, Yue and the Clow Cards once lived. Her excitement fades when an ominous force calls out to Sakura in her dreams reminding her that Clow Reed’s vengeful legacy lingers in the back alleys of Li’s hometown. Now, for the first time, Sakura must call upon her cards to combat a true menace. If she fails, her family and friends will be trapped in the phantom world!

Unfortunately it seems like this collection will only contain the first movie first released in 1999, with no plans confirmed for the second film “Cardcaptor Sakura Movie 2: The Sealed Card“. Bonus on-disc goodies will include theatrical trailers, the original US trailer and TV spots, with first print editions also including a special limited edition slipcase.

Check out my review of the original TV anime series HERE which was based on the Japanese-dubbed edition from Madman Entertainment. I look forward to bringing you a review of this film upon release.
