Funimation Entertainment Announce Acquisition of Ghost in the Shell: Arise – Then Do Something A Bit Unusual For Them

-

Funimation Entertianment have today confirmed that they have acquired the rights to Ghost in the Shell: Arise, the four episode OVA series which is to released beginning the 22nd June 2013 in Japan.

Rather than fans having to wait until the companies English language DVD and/or blu-ray release which could take from several months to a couple of years, they have instead confirmed they will be releasing a special edition subtitled-only blu-ray release containing the imported Japanese O-card, Blu-ray discs, and film strip along with an English translated art booklet.

While the cost is more likely than not going to be expensive (Although hopefully not as expensive as the Fate/Zero imported releases from Aniplex of America), this special edition will be limited with only a single-print run of 2,500 units to be available at an unspecified time. If you decide to forgo purchase, they have also confirmed that they will be screening Parts 1 &2 of the OVA series in alimited theatrical run later this year.

In this prequel set one year after the fourth World War, cyborg and hacker extraordinaire Motoko Kusanagi from the military’s 501st Secret Unit finds herself wrapped up in the investigation of a devastating bombing.
