Aniplex of America to Bring Gurren Lagann Back to DVD and Blu-ray

-

GurrenNorth American anime publisher Aniplex of America have also announced during their recent Sakura-con panel that the Gurren Lagann TV series will be released on DVD and Blu-ray in the coming months.

The series will be released as a Limited Edition DVD Box Set – marking it as the first time that Gurren Lagann will be released in a complete DVD set with bonus features and collector’s goodies to boot. The Gurren Lagann Limited Edition DVD Box Set features the entire TV series (27 episodes) and an unaired episode. The Box Set comes with a double sided poster, a 12 postcard set, 2 stickers of Kamina’s famous remarks all enclosed in a rigid box illustrated by Mechanical Design You Yoshinari. Bonus extras include SANZIGEN’s 3DCG test animation footage, creative staff interview, a special “Yoko Goes to GAINAX” video and more. Pre-orders for this set will open on the 1st April 2013.

PREFER BLU-RAY?

Aniplex of America are also bringing a Complete Blu-ray Box to both US and Canada, however unlike the DVD set this will be imported from Japan (Around the same time as the Japanese release date). However as this is an imported set this will be at a much steeper cost to the DVD edition. Whilst the DVD set has a  SRP of $174.98…. the Blu-ray edition will set you back around $669.98 SRP. One of the most expensive anime releases to the international market…? Quite possible. Worth it? Up to the individual fan.

This is the story of a man who has yet to realize what destiny holds in store for him…. In the distant future, mankind has lived quietly and restlessly underground for hundreds of years, subject to earthquakes and cave-ins. Living in one such village are 2 young men: one named Simon who is shy and naïve, and the other named Kamina who believes in the existence of a “surface” world above their heads. The destiny of these two starts moving drastically when the ceiling of their village falls in, and a gigantic “Gunmen” and a beautiful girl named Yoko, wielding a uperconductive rifle, come from the surface. Together, Kamina, Simon and Yoko ride the mecha “Lagann” that Simon digs out of the ground, and fly up to the surface!

Gurren Lagann is a great series and we are confident these new box sets will satisfy the fan’s requests for a collector’s set.
