Previously The Otaku’s Study has on a number of occasions mentioned Necomimi, a recent accessory that provides an augmented human body experience – namely cat ears which can respond to your emotions and brain waves. At the moment while they can be themed they have primarily been focused on cat ears.
But what if you wanted the same experience with either bunny, bear or fox ears? San Francisco based company Emoki have recently launched a KickStarter campaign for all three types of ears which will be powered by the NeuroSky based headset. In other words – they provide a more realistic experience as they perk up when you are attentive, droop down when you are calm and wriggle back and forth when you are excited.
As you can see from the KickStarter page HERE, they have a number of colours and textures ranging from simple styles to more creative colours to suit your purpose for wearing them. Currently with 21 days remaining they have had 100 backers and a total of $9,564 pledged out of a $35,000. Starting from a pledge of $35 you will be able to choose any animal and colour for one pair of ears (Without headset) while the first pledge amount including the headset is at $129 including one pair of ears and the headset.
While this technology has been released internationally, I have yet to try it out for myself due to a lack somewhat of availability over here in Australia. Specific to Emoki’s KickStarter page, they will only ship to the USA, Canada, the European Union, China and Japan at the moment.
Whether you would use them for cosplay, fashion or just out of interest, this is something I will certainly be following and hopefully get to check out myself in the near future. If this technology and these ideas are just the start of “neuro-fashion”, I look forward to seeing how these innovations will expand in the years to come.
