Madman Entertainment to Release Arrietty on DVD and Blu-ray in May 2012

Madman Entertainment to Release Arrietty on DVD and Blu-ray in May 2012 1Following on from their theatrical release in January 2012, information gathered has indicated that Madman Entertainment’s DVD and Blu-ray home video releases of Studio Ghibli’s title Arrietty will be available on Australian and New Zealand store shelves from the 23rd May 2012. While information remains limited, what we do know so far is that it will come attached with the Optimum Releasing English dub (No word on the inclusion of the Disney dub) along with the Japanese dub and the obligatory English subtitles.

In terms of extras, so far there has only been a Storyboards feature mentioned as of this post, however more in terms of extras and actual pricing should be known in early March 2012 when Madman Entertainment release their May 2012 release slate. (Edit: While there is no official price listed by Madman Entertainment as of yet, JB Hi-fi has the DVD version listed for $29.98, a little bit more than their other Studio Ghibli titles)

I look forward to bringing you a full review of the film upon its home video release, but feel free to read my theatrical release review HERE.

This is a story of a family of little people. Beneath the floorboards of a sprawling mansion set in a magical, overgrown garden in the suburbs of Tokyo, tiny 14-year-old Arrietty lives with her equally tiny parents. The house is occupied by two old ladies, who are absolutely unaware of the existence of their miniature tenants. Arrietty and her family live by borrowing. Everything they have, they borrow or make from the things they have borrowed. Essentials like gas, water and food. Tables, chairs, cooking utensils. And treats – a sugar cube here, a scrap of material there. But only a little each time, so the ladies do not notice. A 12-year-old boy, Sho, moves into the mansion while he waits for urgent medical treatment in the city. Arrietty’s parents have always warned her: “Never let humans see you.” Once seen, little people always have to move on. But the adventurous Arrietty doesn’t listen, and Sho discovers her. The two begin to confide in each other and, before long, a friendship begins to blossom…
