Nippon Ichi Software America to Release House of Five Leaves in March 2012 1

Nippon Ichi Software America has announced their intentions of releasing House of Five Leaves for distribution on the 6th March 2012, in the normal Premium Edition pack with a number of the usual goodies. Over here in Australia, Siren Visual released the series in April 2011 so I have already had a chance to view the series… my thoughts of which you can see HERE.

Taking on a much more serious storyline from the other two Noitamina titles, taking place in the Edo period of Japan, you will be introduced to a young ronin and a group of people known as The Five Leaves, and be captivated by a rather interesting storyline and some very appropriate design features for the time period.” (For the record, the other “Two” noitaminA titles are Welcome To Irabu’s Office and The Tatami Galaxy”).

The story takes place in the Edo era, so it will be of particular interest to those who enjoy series set in that time period, however be warned that this is one of the more serious anime you will find released recently. The series synopsis is below:

The ronin Akitsu Masanosuke was working as a bodyguard in Edo, but due to his shy personality, he kept being let go from his bodyguard jobs despite his magnificent sword skills. Unable to find new work, he wanders around town and meets a man, the playboy who calls himself Yaichi. Even though Yaichi and Masanosuke had just met for the first time, Yaichi treats Masanosuke to a meal and offers to hire him as a bodyguard. Despite the mysteries that surround Yaichi, Masanosuke takes the job. He soon finds out that Yaichi is the leader of a group of kidnappers who call themselves the “Five Leaves.” Now Masanosuke is faced with the dilemma of whether to join the Five Leaves and share in the profits of kidnapping, or to resist becoming a criminal.

First of all, it will all come packed together nicely in an A4 sized hardcover box, which might mess up your shelf if you only have one but actually looks quite good and effective in terms of storage if you have more than one. Inside this box will be two DVD covers, each with different artwork on them and each containing a DVD disc.

More importantly in term of extra content is the obligatory hard cover art book, featuring more than 30 full colour pages of character information, episode guides, artwork, behind the scenes storyboards, draft designs, concept art and a glossary of terms for insight on the culture of feudal Japan. On the discs, the extra contents include textless opening and ending sequences as well as the Japanese trailer for the series.

The MSRP for this title will be $59.99 and will be released on March 6th 2012 in Premium Edition form only. It will run for a total of approximately 274 minutes spread over 12 episodes on two DVD’s. As with all other NIS America anime releases, there will only be Japanese dubbing but will come with English subtitles.
