Siren Visual Picks up License for UN-GO, To Be Simulcast

Siren Visual Picks up License for UN-GO, To Be Simulcast 1Worried when Siren Visual’s simulcast of Usagi Drop reached its final episode and that they had no ongoing noitaminA project for the first time in many months? Well, fret no longer as Siren Visual have just announced that they have acquired upcoming noitaminA series UN-GO for simulcast on AnimeNewsNetwork Australia, which is due to be aired in Japan on October 13. First time hearing about this series? Here is the blurb as taken from the press release:

UN-GO (pronounced ‘ango’) is a detective story set in a futuristic, post-war Tokyo. The control of the media’s infrastructure is in the hands of Rinroku Kaishou and through his power he is able to influence Tokyo’s massive economy, from the political to the industrial arenas. A highly intelligent man, Rinroku has been able to solve a lot of mysteries himself through his own deductive reasoning, and with the vast information he has within his reach. But is he really acting alone?

In this day and age, classic detective work is seen as passé, the individual’s reasoning no match for modern technology. Shinjurou Yuuki, the ‘Last Great Detective’, is consequently known to the public these days as more of a failed detective. Despite this, Shinjurou has no choice but to follow his own intuition as it defines who he is. Working alongside him (and sometimes against him) is a young, sharp-witted cute kid named Inga. Despite both power and public perception, it is actually Shijurou and Inga’s passion that is solving the biggest cases out there…including the ones Kaishou is credited for.

The CEO of Siren Visual, Eric Cherry had this to say on their acquisition of the license:

“Everyone at Siren has been anticipating UN-GO since we learned about it. BONES is behind some of the strongest anime franchises in history and so we feel a humbling sense of responsibility to present UN-GO to the Australian audience in a way that will appeal our existing customers and help us reach new ones.”

The series has a rather reputable cast, nothing less then I would expect for a series in the noitaminA slot. With Seiji Mizushima as Director, Shou Aikawa and Writer and the anime studio BONES behind this title, these staff have previously teamed up for the highly successful Full Metal Alchemist anime series. Other notable staff include character designs illustrated by pako and Yun Kouga. The following is a Japanese trailer for the series:

Siren Visual Picks up License for UN-GO, To Be Simulcast 2I realize I have not finished my summary of this season of anime yet, and will hopefully have it up this weekend, but whilst I am here, I have allocated this series the following image grade for my initial thoughts of the series. I have no previous knowledge of this series and the detective agency plotline has been overused in previous seasons so I am not giving it the highest score, but I feel that the overall storyline sounds creative and hopefully the team is able to pull off it. I will definately be keeping an eye on this one.
